Thaibev give Thai soccer Bt60million injection

Chang beermaker Thaibev has extended its long-running sponsorship with the Football Association of Thailand for another two years, signing a contract extension worth Bt60 million.

"In the last nine years, we have supported our national soccer team regardless of their performance. We want to continue our support in Thai football from youth to senior levels," said Surapol Utintu, executive director of Thaibev Marketing.

"Apart from our financial support, we're ready to help in any activity that will upgrade the sport in our country,"

With Thai teams facing a busy year of tournaments, Surapol hopes the continuity of support from his company will help Thailand succeed on the international stage.

"The senior side faces a decisive match against Oman in the World Cup qualifiers next Wednesday, while the under16 and19 teams will compete in the Asian Championships.

"The futsal team also have tough assignments in the continental championship and World Cup, which we are hosting later this year.

"We arre ready to support every side and hope to see them succeed. We want to play a part in pushing Thailand back to prominence, regionally and continentally, to restore the faith of the fans.

"We want to do this for all Thai people."

Football Association of Thailand president Worawi Makudi said that despite the huge level of financial support the association received from Thaibev and other sponsors (reportedly more than Bt100 million a year), they still needed more in running the sport.

"We need to seek more money because nowadays we hire two foreign coaches for around Bt40 million. And there is also a need to bring in more capable people to help take the sport forward," said Worawi.
