Kpop Goes to South America

Is 2012 the year of oversea tour? Many Kpop singers went overseas for performances. Let’s review where they have gone.

Last November JYJ was the first idol group to open solo concerts in Spain and Germany. The group now plans a World Tour in Chile and Peru, etc. to take place in March. Super Junior plans to continue on their last year world tour ‘Super Show 4’ considering to include South America.

BEAST, 4minute, and G.NA held a South American concert ‘United Cube’ in Sao Paulo, Brazil. It triggered a world tour in 14 countries and 21 cities kicking off in Berlin, Germany to China, Singapore, Japan, Taiwan, U.S., and Europe.

Despite the huge number of girls groups created per year, Big Bang who continues on their popularity in Europe is planning a world tour of 16 countries in 25 cities in March in North & South America, and Europe following the release of their mini-album.

We notice that many of the group’s world tour schedules in 2012 include South America. Why are the agencies including South America, considering the time to travel is up to 50hrs round trip, costly expense and uncertain market?

One agency representative shared, “As South America’s culture and language is similar to U.S. and Europe we have received numerous request to visit South America. Looking into the future South American is an important place that we cannot miss.”

One critic stated, “Kpop compared to South America’s culture has pure charm and cuteness. Probably it’s a new appeal that is attracting the young people of South America.”

It’s interesting to keep watch how Kpop will unfold throughout South America continent.
